How to Clean and Maintain Your Slides — Make Them Last Longer
Share
You've invested in a good pair of slides — now make them last. With the right care routine, your slides can stay fresh and comfortable for years. Here's everything you need to know.
Cleaning by Material
EVA / Rubber Slides
These are the easiest to clean. Rinse under running water, scrub with a soft brush and mild soap, then air dry in the shade. Avoid direct sunlight as it can cause the material to warp or fade over time.
Foam Slides
Wipe down with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Don't soak foam slides in water — excess moisture can break down the foam structure. Let them air dry completely before storing.
Synthetic / Faux Leather Slides
Use a damp cloth to wipe the surface. For stubborn stains, a small amount of mild soap works well. Avoid harsh chemicals that can crack or discolour the material.
Fabric Strap Slides
Hand wash the straps with mild detergent and a soft brush. Rinse thoroughly and air dry. Never machine wash — it can damage the strap attachment points.
General Maintenance Tips
- Clean after every heavy use — especially after monsoon walks or dusty outings
- Store in a cool, dry place — avoid leaving slides in a hot car or direct sunlight
- Rotate your footwear — giving slides a rest between wears extends their life significantly
- Check the sole regularly — worn-down soles reduce grip and comfort; replace when tread is gone
- Use a shoe deodoriser — sprinkle baking soda inside or use a spray to keep them smelling fresh
When to Replace Your Slides
Even with great care, slides don't last forever. Replace them when:
- The sole is worn flat with no grip remaining
- The footbed has compressed and no longer provides cushioning
- Straps are cracking, fraying, or no longer hold securely
- They cause discomfort or blisters due to material breakdown
A well-maintained pair of slides is a worthy investment. Take care of them and they'll take care of your feet.
